In the icy 14°C waters of the Galápagos, ocean sunfish (Mola ramsayi) rise from the deep thermocline to visit a cleaning station. There, reef fish remove parasites from their skin, a vital interaction for a species that spends much of its time in colder, deeper offshore waters.
Cleaning stations offer a rare opportunity to observe these otherwise elusive giants near the surface.
