Hidden deep within the swirling tentacles of a Euphyllia coral in Raja
Ampat, this tiny orangutan crab (Achaeus japonicus) finds both shelter
and a food source amidst its host’s embrace. The crab’s delicate arms
echo the curling shapes of the coral’s tentacles: a visual reflection
of the symbiotic relationship between them. In turn, the crab helps
keep the coral free of debris and detritus, maintaining the health of
its host.
